About Acupuncture #01

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese therapy. It's based on the theory that our health depends on an unobstructed flow of Qi (or vital energy) through the body. For each organ there's a corresponding pathway or energy channel through which the Qi flows.

Fine needles are inserted into the body at specific points along these channels to manipulate the energy, and so affect the organs and systems of the body.

Nobody truly understands how it works, but an increasing number of studies and clinical trials are proving it to be an effective treatment for a whole range of conditions. It is also worth considering that acupuncture has been used for thousands of years, testimony in itself to the success of this gentle yet powerful ancient therapy.

Is it safe?

Acupuncture needles are hair thin, sterile, stainless steel and single use. Hence, there's no risk of cross-contamination and, once inserted, very little sensation apart from a feeling of relaxation.

How can acupuncture help me?

Many people seek help with specific conditions, including:

  • Acute and chronic pain
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Anxiety, depression and stress
  • ME and post-viral fatigue
  • Tiredness
  • Asthma and allergies
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Digestive problems
  • Sinusitis
  • High blood pressure
  • Arthritis and rheumatism
  • Menstrual disorders, infertility and the management of pregnancy

Although you may come for treatment with a specific condition, acupuncture promotes general health and well-being. This is because it treats the person (and the underlying root of imbalance) rather than just the symptoms.
