What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese therapy. It's based on the theory that our health depends on an unobstructed flow of Qi (or vital energy) through the body. For each organ there's a corresponding pathway or energy channel through which the Qi flows.
Fine needles are inserted into the body at specific points along these channels to manipulate the energy, and so affect the organs and systems of the body.
Nobody truly understands how it works, but an increasing number of studies and clinical trials are proving it to be an effective treatment for a whole range of conditions. It is also worth considering that acupuncture has been used for thousands of years, testimony in itself to the success of this gentle yet powerful ancient therapy.
Is it safe?
Acupuncture needles are hair thin, sterile, stainless steel and single use. Hence, there's no risk of cross-contamination and, once inserted, very little sensation apart from a feeling of relaxation.
